Believe it or not there are some things that you may not have considered or you might not have even thought of for one reason or another but, you may not know what you're missing out on.

Here are some ideas to check out that just might tickle your fancy, as I know they sure did when I was a kid and they should put a smile on your kids face too. I even still enjoy giving some of these a go myself from time to time to this very day as an adult. Take a look, see what you think, as you might too!

Gokarts, an old time favorite from years past

cart1 (2K)

Yup, a go ole gokart, sometimes spelled gocart. These simple machines grew from the first crude homemade wood versions with lawn mower engines to the factory manufactured ones of today. I remember the first one my neighbor and I built. Not much to look at but, it was a heck of a lot of fun. With a couple of 2 x 4's and a rope for steering it was something else. The newer factory made karts even have suspension now and variable speed belt torque converters to give a lot of power on take off without limiting the top end speeds like our one speed sprocket and chain drives did. Evolution from the GoKart?

And what might that be? Of course the Mini Bike. A friend of mine who lived up the street actually got one of these beauties. His dad built hot rods in their garage so he new what a kid would like. It was a Rupp Mini bike with a tecumseh engine. Here's a picture of that mini bike. The only difference is that his was blue. minirupp (3K) It didn't take long before I save up some money and my dad found a frame that a friend of his was selling and I grabbed it for $50. It was a Fox campus frame which was top of the line. It had front springs for shock absorbing and a jackshaft that made it easy to change gear ratios depending on what you wanted to do. I took it apart and cleaned it all up and painted it a peacock blue with a can of automotive touch up paint that I picked up at the store. It really looked like brand new. My dad also was also able to buy motor through his shop at a discount and this 4hp Briggs was just the ticket. I bought the other things I needed, centrifugal clutch and chain at a local supply store and after some assembling, I was finally up and running. It had real nice drum brakes built into the special rear sprocket assemlby. I kept it pretty much at a 6 to 1 gear ratio most of the time which gave pretty good pickup and not too bad on the top end too. I must admit, at one time I changed the jackshaft to a top end ratio. It didn't take off very fast but once it got rolling I bet it hit somewhere between 40 and 50 miles an hour. I only kept it that way for one day as it was more fun having some take off power for the off-road riding. I did gear it down once and it would pop wheelies real easy, but it had no speed so that only lasted a day or two. I got a couple of good years out of that baby. It was then that the CB radios started popping up and I had to sell my mini bike to get in on the latest craze. Scooters, the BIG New craze to hit the scene

You probably got a good idea what this might be as they are everywhere you look. You got it, the gas and electric scooter. Once the little razor push scooter came about, next thing you know there are the electric and gas powered ones. These really caught my attention as they look like they are lot of fun and something that I wish they would have had around when I was a kid. With the unbelievable HIGH price of gas these days, it probably would pay to have one of these to run your small errands and short trips with. scooterbig (2K) scooterraz2 (2K) Yes, we bought one of the electric razors for our son's 12th birthday and I must confess that I did take it for a spin on it and they are a blast. What about a BMX Bike?

bmxbike2 (3K)

There's a lot that one can do with a BMX bike. It you have ever watched the X Games on tv you know what I'm talking about. bmxfreestyle1 (2K)The things these guys do with there BMX bikes on the ramps and courses that they have set up is unbelievable to say the least. The only bikes we had back when I was a kid weren't much compared to these high tech BMX bikes. I road the ole 3 speed thin wheeled racer bike they called it, which by the way got me on my first day of ownership when the front tire dropped down through a rain gutter by the curb on our street. The new BMX bikes can be customized with many options from handlebars to seats, peddles, you name it. It takes special set ups for different types of competitions or uses. Hey, you don't have to compete or do anything special to own one of these cool bikes.

Hey, Remember the Skateboards?

Now here's one that also has been around for quite a while though it cooled off there for quite a few years. Skateboarding is one of the first new things to come about right after the big roller skating craze. Someone simply took the wheels off a pair of skates and attached them to a plain ole board and presto, skateboarding was born. earlyskateboard (2K)Yes, I must admit, I did actually make my own first skate board this way. It's amazing how something so simple has evolved into a very popular sport. Like BMX biking, there are ramps and courses set up to compete against others and when you see these guys perform you would think they are crazy. There is a lot of safety equipment that really helps and for the most part when I skateboarded we didn't really have anything to protect the elbows and knees or head from a fall. Thank goodness I never got seriously injured and to this day don't know how I managed not too. We always rode on the cement sidewalks which weren't very forgiving if one was to fall.
